日本驻华大使座驾在北京遭袭

The Japanese Embassy in Beijing said a car carrying the ambassador was attacked by a man who ripped off the Japanese flag from the vehicle. The attack comes amid rising diplomatic tensions and anti-Japanese sentiment over disputed islands.

日本驻中国大使馆说，日本驻华大使乘坐的车辆遭袭，一名男子拔去了车辆上插着的日本国旗。此事发生在中日两国因争议岛屿问题外交紧张关系不断升温和中国反日情绪日益高涨之际。

The embassy said Ambassador Uichiro Niwa was returning to the embassy on Monday when his official car was stopped by two other vehicles. It said a man jumped out of one of the vehicles and pulled the flag off the front of Mr. Niwa's car, damaging the flagpole.

日本驻中国大使馆说，驻华大使丹羽宇一郎(Uichiro Niwa)周一在返回大使馆的途中，他的座驾被另外两辆车拦截迫停。日本大使馆说，一名男子从车上下来，拔走了插在丹羽宇一郎车前方的日本国旗，损坏了旗杆。

It said nothing else was damaged.

日本驻中国大使馆说，除此之外没有其它破坏。

The embassy said it issued a strong protest to China's Foreign Ministry, which expressed deep regret over the incident and said authorities would spare no effort to prevent a recurrence.

日本驻中国大使馆说，已向中国外交部提出强烈抗议。中国外交部对此深表遗憾，说当局会不遗余力防止类似事件再度发生。

China's Foreign Ministry said in response to a request for comment that China is conducting a 'serious investigation'' into the incident and that the Chinese government has consistently fulfilled its international obligation to protect the safety of foreign embassies and personnel.

中国外交部在回复对此事置评的请求时说，中方正在对此进行认真调查，中国政府一贯认真履行其国际义务，保护外国驻华使馆和人员的安全。

It is unclear whether the attack was related to the dispute over the Japan-controlled islands, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in Chinese, which are also claimed by China and Taiwan.

目前尚不清楚这次袭击事件是否与两国就日本控制的尖阁列岛（Senkaku，中国称钓鱼岛）领土争端有关。中国大陆和台湾也声称对该岛拥有主权。

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland on Monday said the U.S. hadn't been able to confirm the incident but expressed concern over media reports of it. 'If, in fact, these reports on the attack of the vehicle of the Japanese ambassador are accurate, these would be extremely concerning, particularly given his diplomatic status,' she told a daily briefing.

美国国务院发言人努兰德(Victoria Nuland)周一说，美国还未能证实这一事件的真实性，但对有关媒体报道表示关切。她在每日例行的新闻发布会上说，如果有关袭击日本驻华大使车辆的报道属实，那的确非常令人担忧，特别是考虑到他的外交身份。

Ms. Nuland said Washington has repeatedly urged the two countries to resolve the territorial row peacefully and added that the U.S. doesn't take a position on the sovereignty of the islands.
