后来格列·弗雷跟随当时的女友Joan Silwin搬到了洛杉矶，并在洛杉矶结识John David Souther。不久后格列·弗雷就跟John David Souther共同租房住在东洛杉矶，跟他们住在一起的还有一位词曲作者Jackson Browne，这三人迅速“打入”洛杉矶当地的摇滚夜总会。不过格列·弗雷跟David Souther组成的二人演唱组“Longbranch Pennywhistle”并不成功，这个短命组合在1969年发行了一张专辑后迅速解散。
