The eating of “poon choi” is a communal activity and is considered important for family relations.

The shape of jiaozi resembles that of ancient gold and silver ingots or a crescent moon, and it symbolizes the hope for a year of plenty.

So my mother always says that she gives birth to a cat. Everytime she says that all of us laugh.
