《摩登家庭》S5E6：“话唠”用英语怎么说？

米奇尔他们再过几个月就要举行婚礼。他们的朋友佩波组织过几十场同性恋婚礼，这次他带他的助手罗纳尔多来帮他们策划婚礼。四个知识点，来看看吧。

1. chatterbox

chatterbox指的是话多的人（尤指小孩）。

关于话唠，talk的衍生词talkative就表示喜欢说话的；健谈的；多嘴的。

还有形容词talky，意思是能言善辩的；话多的。另外还有这些短语：

①talk sb's head off 对（某人）喋喋不休

②talk a blue streak 滔滔不绝，口若悬河

③talk the hind leg(s) off a donkey 喋喋不休

2. on the brink

完整的表达是teeter on the brink/edge of sth，形容濒临，处于（糟糕形势）的边缘。

brink表示的是（事情发生的）边缘；始发点，比如形容在崩溃的边缘：

Extreme stress had driven him to the brink of a nervous breakdown.

极大的压力使他处于精神崩溃的边缘。

比如接近某种状态：

Scientists are on the brink of (= extremely close to) a major new discovery.

科学家们就快有新的重大发现了。

edge也表示（变故的）边缘，当然指的是不好的方面。

The company is on the edge of collapse.

公司濒临倒闭。

3. not sleep a wink

not sleep a wink也可以是not get a wink of sleep，意思都是“没合眼，一刻也没睡”。

I didn't sleep a wink last night with all that noise.

昨晚噪声那么大，我根本就没睡着。

一般“熬夜”可以说stay up：

We stayed up (late) to watch a film.

我们熬夜看了部电影。

4. through the mill

mill的意思是磨坊，碾磨厂，磨粉厂，have been through the mill可以表示久经磨练，饱尝辛酸。而put sb through the mill可以表示使（某人）饱受折磨；（尤指用大量问题）为难（某人）。

I had the interview this morning - they really put me through the mill.

我今早去面试了——他们真让我受了番折磨。
