埃及教堂炸弹袭击致47人亡 总统宣布进入紧急状态

Egypt's President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi announced a three-month state of emergency across the country after attacks on two Coptic churches that left at least 47 dead.

The first bombing, in Tanta, a Nile Delta city about 100 km north of Cairo, tore through the inside of St George Church during its Palm Sunday service, the Ministry of Health said.

The second, a few hours later in Alexandria, hit St Mark's Cathedral.

Mr Sisi made a defiant speech at the presidential palace after a meeting of the national defence council to discuss the explosions.

He warned that the war against the jihadists would be "long and painful", and said that the state of emergency would come into force after all "legal and constitution steps" were taken.

So-called Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying two of its fighters wearing suicide vests carried out the attacks and warning of more to come.

The assault is the latest on a religious minority increasingly targeted by Islamist militants, and a challenge to President Al Sisi, who has pledged to protect them as part of his campaign against extremism.
